Turns out the birthday ended up with a bit of an incident so we had time today to explore the offerings of the National Health Service in Cornwall. Our adventures took us to Newquay and the Minor Injuries Clinic. Just like everywhere we have been in England, such a wonderfully compassionate and kindly group of people on staff. D assures us she is not really trying to live out a Doc Martin adventure but it was good to get the ankle checked out - no broken bones after all, so on we went to explore the town of Newquay.
This is a gorgeous town. The ocean waters here are a huge attraction for surfers and the like with really blue-green waters that are so crystal clear - completely unlike Brereton. It seemed to be a community with a lot of expansion and building going on, but it seems from our eyes to be done with a really well-planned and thought out development. We drove through the Newquay Zoo area and a lovely park where we stopped for tea and cakes. Lots and lots of options for tea and cakes throughout all of Cornwall and everyone has been quite enjoying the clotted cream and scones.
We don't think we have told you yet about our most favourite route using the King Harry Ferry. This is a ferry that transports you across the river 140 yards. It holds maybe 30 cars at a time and is strung together from one side to the other with huge chains that take you across. The entrance and exit roads to the ferry are so quaintly beautiful with treed like lanes, not unlike the movie scenes one would see in The Holiday.
Mamma and Daddy P and Little P were off to Windsor today and will be wending their way back home shortly. We will miss them but we sure did have a lot of fun together on this holiday!
