What a fun
day we had today! Meg, Sir IF, and the DJs headed to the north coast side of
Cornwall to explore Tintagel Castle. It ended up being a nice sunny day but
cool and very windy. D is quite certain that all of the knights had to wear
their armour to keep themselves weighted down so they didn’t blow off the
cliff. It was a very high climb on a sheer drop but we all made it up. The
views were incredible and it was a real sense of accomplishment for Meg at the
end of the day to know that she had conquered her initial fears that she would
get up there but never make it back down.
The roads
from our accommodation over to Tintagel found us going round and round and
round those roundabouts. In addition to the round and round, we got to try out
the A roads and the B roads. The A roads have endless roundabouts, at least on
this particular route, but everyone moves really efficiently. The B roads often
didn’t have two lane access so we learned very quickly how best to tackle the
driving in these areas. Go slow and give way whenever possible. Sir IF is a
great driver and patiently takes it all in stride.
We passed
some very interesting street signs today including the one when we got into
Tintagel that said and we quote, "Slow down for the fox sake". Another one read “Unusual load up ahead”. D assured us she was not an unusual load.
It seems
like almost every little town name here starts with the letter “T”. Not sure of the relevance or significance of
that but quite interesting.
After
Tintagel we drove on incredibly narrow roads and up and down very steep hills
to get to the town of Port Isaac, mostly known as the site where the BBC show “Doc
Martin” is filmed. It was great fun to see in person the views we regularly
watch on the show. We found a nice little place for lunch called The Chapel restaurant
which was delightful and walked down to the beach area of the harbour where Sir
IF could get his photo taken with more boats in the background.
Little P
and Mamma and Daddy P had a fun and busy day too, exploring Lands End, the St.
Mawes Castle, and the Telegraph Museum. Sir IF and J toured St. Mawes Castle as
well whilst the girls had a nap.
And of course it wouldn't be a perfect day unless it ended up with milk and cookies (with Aunty D showing Little P how to dunk the cookies, just so)!
